The Shameless Indian, why?

 

To contradict the mindset of the people I came across, I will start with the definition. The dictionary meaning of the word Shameless is Feeling no shame or Unblushing. But that doesn’t come to our mind for the first time we hear this, or does it? As soon as we hear this word, we immediately trigger our mind saying it is a negative word and we assume the absolute opposite of this word as Ashamed or even worse, Disgraceful!

Pardon the person’s English in the above image, but to interpret, this person assumed that I’m calling India as Shameless. Maybe he was too furious that he didn’t notice an “n” after India and even if he didn’t, Shameless India was just fine too as it would have rather showed the courage to accept.

The above text made me laugh so hard and at the same time I felt enraged, but I could understand this man’s rage too. This person is so much engrossed with the self-love for the country that he couldn’t take the word Shameless preceding the word Indian.

The above images are quite an example of how people ignore everything when it comes to their country of citizenship.

Before I start with the whys, I am deeply thankful to all those who were either so curious or disgusted by the name itself that the answer to their questions became the inception of this blog site.

So why Indian? Simple, because that’s my origin and being an Indian gives me the right amount of basic that is needed for my sentiments.

Now the twist!

Why did I choose the not-so-intelligent word prefacing the word Indian? Well, I have been writing for more than 8 years, but it was 2 years ago when a friend made me realize that I should have a pen name that depicts my bare and non-sugar-coated thoughts. And what is better than the name Shameless? But the questions I am always shoved on, seemed like either the word is itself misunderstood as Shameful or Ashamed, or these people had poor grades in their English coursework.

For the people who think, I am just one more liberal or communist, left-wing or right-wing, or better, an anti-nationalist? Well I am not!

I am just The Shameless Indian, and that’s all!

So, the question is answered about the name, now let’s talk about the need of The Shameless Indian in our cultured society.

It is because, we have constantly struggled to add a filter to our thoughts, and we tried hard to add that filter, but when personally I couldn’t, I thought why not just blurt it out loud! Our culture and fear of religion may have been one of the reasons and our so-called democracy and political profanity acted like an unstable atom to this equation.

There have been instances when shit went south with no ends, yet we refrain from discussions of the righteousness of those incidents. The irony is, we did talk a lot about the horrifying events, didn’t we? We changed our social media profile pictures with black holes when rapes happened, we belittled a community so much that we created more number of terrorists than ever which just proved the point of the masterminds of these attacks and we also worshipped our so-called Mother Cow so much that the more we worshipped, the more people were lynched.

This brings us back to those WhatsApp images I added above:

The people were hindered by the thought that someone is demeaning their nation without even knowing the true meaning.

This shows, we used our power of speaking more than the power of doing, and the more we spoke without knowing the facts, we gave a chance to those who shouldn’t be speaking at all. There was a voice for everything and perfect use of freedom of speech, but the lack of knowledge made us feel like we were becoming a victim to an attack which never happened!

How?

  • While there were rapes happening in our country, our concern, “If should women be left to their will or not?”, provoked more rapes in the name of age of the victim, clothes they were wearing, and the Gods they worshipped
  • Blaming one community for terrorist attacks even when people from all religions were the catalysts, increased the number of attacks every year

And I am not frowning just because of these instances, perhaps they are adding the heat to the growing intolerance of people during a pandemic that they want to go out for hikes and dinners, but still prefer to work from home. Also, because we kill more people with hate crime than the terrorist attacks or we think being gay is a crime or sex before marriage is a sin but rapes by priests and pundits are acceptable.

There are millions of reasons for a person to be frustrated or have an outrageous opinion like domestic violence, bureaucratic economies, failure of the United Nations, ignorance towards climate change, and more.

But the question arises again,

Why The Shameless Indian?

Because I am! Because I want to talk without filters about the things which are pestering our lives like termites. And with my words I aspire to remove the cornea of misinformation in front of our eyes when and wherever it warrants to be.

What makes me shameless?

The ability and courage to do, to do things for betterment. And if you have lost the patience too, then you can take this road to express your feelings and how things should have been.

Why am I doing this? Who am I? A goodness priest, a cop, or a minister?

Well, I am none of them. I am exactly that stupid common man who thought that things might get okay if he doesn’t go out to make it happen, but I guess they won’t and that’s why I am taking up this battle. And my weapons are my pen and paper to write an opinion from an angle which either you don’t see or don’t want to see.

Now it’s time to keep on doing! If you think you can write, then write, or if you think you can express by making a movie then do that, or by becoming a better doctor or a cop then yes, that counts too. BUT DO SOMETHING!

All it takes is a thought and courage!

  7. I felt your frustration, the rawness, sacrilege, and the words breathing fire, acidic words, but they heal something lost in civilization, the idiotic evolution of mankind.
    That’s what culture and society are: side effects of “evolution”.

    And what you’re doing is you’re bandaging those wounds caused by taboos, religion, casteism, and whatnot dumb things.
    So you’re healing the world. Your words may be profane, but the end result is a sweet thing.
    That’s what healing means.
    Lost in civilization means we as homo sapiens never had differences until we learnt etiquette, possessions, money, and became “civilized” human beings.

    Along with marvelous inventions, Renaissance, discoveries, also evolved idiotic ideas on how to shame people, banish and alienate unique people, discriminate, and cultivate unnecessary shame.

    All of these are just results of unacceptance.

    You are positively “shameless” in confronting things if you don’t find ’em good enough.
    I really appreciate what you’re doing, support your cause, and may the end result be a better, sweeter, accepting world.

  10. Controversies will always be there, even there are few points, I would like to discuss on which might show disagreement with your point. But the name TheShamelessIndian you are right people are taking it in wrong way. But again I said, there are few point I would love to argue with you as your younger brother to either correct myself or to correct you…but not here 😊 all the best keep rocking.

  12. I got the idea…. You want to point out the dirt and not let it slide under the carpet.
    Look boy…. Don’t mix figurative,sarcastic, and factual stuff in the same para
    I enjoyed the plot, later felt that covering many issues but just pointing them superficially not only broke the flow but somehow disturbed the central idea.
    Ending was the saviour.

  13. First of all many Congratulations on the start of your new journey. I truly love the concept and the fact that you are actually pointing out in the correct direction. The thing is I know many of us, think the same way about things like you do but it requires a lot of courage, bluntness, and boldness to speak our thoughts out loud. And this what you are doing and have been doing is simply appreciable. The hint of sarcasm in the title “The Shameless Indian” seems quite appropriate after reading your views. Yes, I strongly agree that it’s time ‘common man’ needs to be Shameless. Also, I feel writing is a strong medium to connect people but only if they build the patience to read long pieces because as you must be knowing people are losing patience with every passing minute.
    I hope you’ll be consistent with your blog as there’s plenty you could say with just pen & paper or should I say keyboard & screen.

      I’m glad that my words made an impression about my thoughts and work. And I agree that everyone thinks that and that’s why I affirmed the need of doing now.

      Common man, us, we are so engrossed in our lifestyle that we don’t have space for more things to do and if we have then we choose to live it for ourselves, not anyone to be blamed.

      I hope to keep the consistency and try to make my articles less in words, can’t promise though!

  16. The entire concept was well explained but there was a bit of casual ness in the article i felt. Like where you wrote ‘i laughed so hard reading that message’ , this seems more of a with friend conversation where we tend to express our emotions a bit more. Not having much knowledge about reviewing but i think that if you would have wrote it in a much calmer way like ‘ the message was an amusement to my eyes and ideology’, it would have been much more effective in my opinion. Also i feel that there is a touch rather more of angst in your writing. Its okay that you were telling the reason behind your blog’s title but it appeared as if you were making a statement about it or proving your point. For the first time reader it might appear as a writer with a provoked mindset. Also the content could have been a bit more concise and crisp. While reading it i kinda lost my interest midway.

    Having known you personally it was a great pride to read and see your attempt.
